Kids and Entoto Make a Great Team
Training starts in early February with fun and meaningful events planned along the way to punctuate the experience. March hosts the school-wide Entoto Fitness Contest with classrooms competing for the coveted honor of “Most Laps Run.”
To catalyze the training effort, American miler and Mr. Junior Carlsbad, Steve Scott, will be joined by professional runners to give the OPE kids some expert advice and encouragement. The 1-hour after school training session should prove to be great preparation - physically and mentally - for the “Kids 4 Entoto” runners.
Prior to race day, kids will be treated to a runner’s traditional pre-race dinner…pasta, pasta and more pasta! Ethiopian runners in town for the Carlsbad 5000 have been invited to join the feast and share their running wisdom as the kids make their final preparations for race day. All the hard work, training and fundraising, culminate with race day as OPE kids, kindergarten through 6th grade, run their personal best for Entoto. All in all, a great experience for a great cause.
